I thought I would give some air-time to Manchester and share some of my favourite eats! This also let’s me focus on something other than twiddling my thumbs until I next go away.
DRINK – Ancoats Coffee Co
When in need of darn good coffee. The interiors are an industrialists dream, set in a grade II listed mill – it’s worth coming here to appreciate the place alone. The guys that work here are clued up on all the coffee history too, giving you a run-down on all the specialist beans that go into the coffee. I also come here and find myself Shazamming (is that a word?) like crazy because I love the laid-back playlists that are playing.
EAT – Refuge by Volta, Oxford Road
For the good food and interior lovin’ – Refuge. I’ve been a fan of Volta since discovering their restaurant in Didsbury. Refuge opened last year and there’s nothing about the place I don’t like; great dishes and the best bar! The menu is small but packs a punch where you can leave satisfied after having 3-4 small plates with all different tastes! My favorites are hake, black daal and smoked feta with beetroot, hazlenut & dil. Nom.
For the bar, grab yourself a seat in the winter garden which is just a grand palace dream.
EAT – Another Heart To Feed, Salford
Federal will always have my heart but Another Heart to Feed is bringing some serious competition. To put it into perspective, since opening in Salford a month ago – I’ve been three times – for brunch. Issues? Not when the food is this good. Go for an Aussie inspired breakfast, eggs with beet hummus, acai bowls and good coffee. If you’re un-decided, opt for the taster breakfast board which covers it all!
EAT – Evelyns – Northern Quarter
Think East Village in New York, bought to a small corner of Manchester. For food as aesthetically pleasing as the interiors, Evelyns has been a favourite of mine since it opened. I could come here for breakfast and stay until dinner. Fusion food at it’s best. The best part, it’s Halal meaning I can go crazy on ordering the meat dishes!
Top picks; Koren Fried Chicken, Crab & Shrimp burger, Masala Hake.
